Schoodic Arts for All is a grassroots 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to fostering interest and involvement in the arts and culture for all who wish to participate, regardless of their circumstances. Schoodic Arts for All is located in the Winter Harbor/Prospect Harbor (Schoodic) area of Downeast Maine, at the edge of Hancock and Washington Counties, an area of our state that is economically challenged.
Schoodic Arts for All is exactly what its name conveys: high-level performances, cultural programming and workshops made available to all who wish to participate regardless of their financial position.
The mission of Schoodic Arts for All is to bring together and provide opportunities for people of all ages to experience and appreciate the arts. Since our beginning in 1999, Schoodic Arts for All has been an integral part of our community as an arts presenting organization. In addition, we also are a centerpiece for the downtown renovation, a positive influence on the economic situation, a resource for the schools in our district and a venue for the community events in our town.

4 Bead Weaving; Herringbone Stitch Bracelet Also knows as “Ndebele,” this ancient African stitch uses needle, thread, seed beads and larger beads for embellishment. 9 Cut and Pierced Lampshade Crafting Learn the craft of cutting and piercing a design on lampshade paper and making a lampshade by attaching to frames and then trimming with ribbon. 13 Jewelry Making With Wire Wrapping We will learn spirals and coils and make our own jump rings, clasps, findings and all the things that a good wire wrapper needs to know about. 14 Raku Workshop In this 2 day workshop, you will have an opportunity to experience Raku firing first-hand. Raku is a method of firing pottery that began in Japan 300 years ago. In Raku firing, we fire pots fast, then remove them from the kiln and place them in some combustible material. This results in a wide variety of colors - no two are ever alike. 16 Dichroic Glass - Setting In Precious Metal Clay Combine Glass Fusing and Precious Metal Clay and learn how to set fused glass in Precious Metal Clay. 18 Wind Sculptures Wind sculptures, like weather vanes, are outdoor artforms that also tell us which way the wind blows. This workshop will teach you why they work and how to make one. In the course of the workshop you will paint and assemble a two foot long wind fish that will pivot to indicate the direction of the wind and provide delight for seasons to come. Ages 10-adult. 28 Sky Dying Learn basic dyeing techniques by recreating your favorite sky in wool. Use synthetic dyes to make a wool sky you can use in a rug hooking or fiber art project. 31 Indigo Magic We'll learn the cultivation of Polygonum Tinctorium (Japanese Indigo) and use it fresh to make a magnificent, colorfast, and safe blue dye. 46 Burned Out Bowls By placing a coal on a block of cedar wood and then blowing on the coal by use of a straw made of water grass you will hollow a bowl and a spoon. This is much the same way as indigenous people made dug out canoes. We will make our own tongs to handle the coals, by making cordage from inner basswood bark and saplings. Ages 14-adult. 47 Dream Catchers Each participant will make his or her own hoop and weave a spider's web. Add a wooden bead and a feather to catch your dreams. 48 Fish spear Carve your wooden fish spear by splitting a straight shaft and carving two barbs from the halves created by the split. These barbs will hold the fish if executed with skill and accuracy. Using deer hide you will secure a wooden wedge to create a spacer for the split. Ages 14-adult. 49 Traditional Penobscot Birch Bark Baskets Choose to make either a food storage bucket or fold-up water container. The traditional use for a bucket is to store dried foods. 50 Build and Play the Cookie-Tin Banjo* Learn the high art of Cookie Tin Banjo construction and playing. This course assumes no prior musical or instrument-making experience. 64 Oil Painting: Getting the Most with a Limited Palette This oil painting class will focus on using a limited palette of colors to create strong paintings. 65 Writing Dynamic Dialogue Dialogue must move a story, raise questions, and create tension. This workshop will be an exploration of what makes good dialogue through short writing exercises, discussion, and supportive and honest critique. We will orally tell each other stories, talk about what a story needs to be effective, and write some of them down. Then we will rework them until we are happy with the results.
