Western Maine Cultural Alliance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Its mission is to raise awareness of arts and culture in Western Maine.
Projects started with cultural inventory and data gathering work that was described in a film titled; "A Celebration of Discovery".
Data was used to create a print directory of inventory along with history and folklore in 2003 and online searchable data bases at our web site.
Cultural mapping started with two dozen towns that included downtown walking tours of four national historic districts.
WMCA initiated a successful campaign for designation of Route 113 as a Maine Scenic Byway.
Folklore projects have produced searchable data bases and a web page that includes audio downloads taken from oral history work completed over 20 years ago.
