I am an Illustrator, Painter, Designer, Teacher....................with Sharp Designs Studio & Gallery on Wyman Road in Milbridge.I have studied at the Philadelphia College of Art, Moore College of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, where my ancestor Cecilia Beau was the first female Art Professor, Haystack School of Crafts for Printmaking, and finally, recently, the Maine College of Art, where I learned computer technology and software.I am fascinated with the possibilities of combining classic painting studies, with conceptual expressions, and technical manipulation and reproduction.
In 1964 I discovered tide pools on a vacation trip to Maine. I knew they existed from the Burgess seashore books I had read, but the only evidence of sea life I saw on the Jersey shore were little clamshells and skate egg cases. I worked intensely for a month every summer to photograph and sketch tide pools before returning to Philadelphia, where I painted murals, faux finishes, designed wallpaper and did a variety of free lance ads, book illustration, brochures, logos, portraits, and equine & marine painting commissions. I embrace the variety of challenges presented by doing a diversity of subject matter, although I return again & again to landscape and nature oriented pictures, It was the tidepools down the road that brought me to Milbridge!
The fantasy portrait was commissioned by their family, because the two little girls love the story of Anderson's Little Mermaid.
The Harbor League Club Mural and my signature logo tall ship painting were commissioned by the Harbor league club. The mural ia s 4 4' X 8' panels of plywood, painted with the Philadelphia waterfront circa, 1890, antiqued and installed in the restaurant.
